Located in the west coast of Sabah is the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA), which is the main gateway to the state. The airport is located just 8 km from the Kota Kinabalu city centre.

In the east coast, there is the Sandakan Airport for domestic flights, located just about 14 km from downtown Sandakan.

Your rental car will be waiting for you upon arrival at the airport, or if you would prefer a different pick-up point, that can also be arranged.

A valid passport or a travel document valid for at least six months is required to enter Sabah. You will not need a separate Visa to visit Sabah if you have already acquired a Malaysian Visa as it will also cover the Malaysian state of Sabah.

Being a tropical island, the best time to visit would be all year round, although, Sabah is known for its dry season, which tends to happen between February to August and wet season from September to January

Though weather is fairly constant each year in Sabah, being in the tropics also means that it can also be unpredictable. Dry seasons can sometimes have a bit of showers, while wet seasons can have days that are sun shiny too.

Travellers might want to take note of the peak seasons for travelling in Sabah, which are between May to September. This is also when accommodations can be become scarce. So, if you’re planning your holiday around that time, do plan and make your bookings way in advance.

Depending on the type of accommodations you prefer and the duration of your holiday in Sabah, how much to spend will depend a lot on these and what you want to experience.

However, this really depends on how much you want to see and experience in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo. The longer you stay, the more exploring you can do.
